Don’t let going on holiday impact a potential property sale

It might not happen all that often in Scotland, but properties always look better on a sunny day! It’s a proven fact that when the sun is shining, house hunters are more inclined to view properties. So if you do have your property on the market, and are away on holiday this summer, then make sure you remember to keep it looking at it’s best.

As a vendor, going away should not have any impact on a potential sale. Just make sure you tell your estate agent and leave them a key as well as clear instructions how to keep the property in shape for you.

  • Leave your estate agent a key and details of any household alarms so they can manage potential viewings
  • Ensure the house is clean and tidy before you leave. Ask the estate agent to open the windows when they come in to get some fresh air
  • Make sure your fridge is clean, dishwasher and bins are emptied and there is nothing lying about that could cause a bad odour around the house
  • Ask a neighbour to keep an eye on the garden, water the plants and even cut the grass if necessary
